Virginia Union University racked up 520 yards in total offense, including rushing for six touchdowns, as the Panthers downed Bluefield State University 57-12 on Saturday, October 28, in Bluefield, W.V.

VUU’s Christian Reid, a graduate student from Newnan, Ga., who is majoring in Mass Communications, completed 12 of 19 passes for 276 yards.  Reid also hooked up with Reginald Vick, Jr., a redshirt freshman from Wendell, N.C., who is majoring in Business, for an 81-yard touchdown pass.

Virginia Union’s Jada Byers, a junior from Bridgeton, N.J., who is majoring in Social Work, led VUU with 67 yards and a touchdown.  His teammate, Curtis Allen, a sophomore from Petersburg, Va., who is majoring in Business, had 59 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense got into the scoring when Ephraim Moore, a senior from Odenton, Md., who is majoring in Mass Communication, intercepted a 2-point conversion pass and returned it 98 yards for a defensive PAT.

“I thought the guys played an excellent game today,” said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  “I was happy with how they came out and had a good first half.  I was really happy with how things went today.”

The win, coupled with Virginia State University’s 75-25 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, sets up the VUU-VSU game which will determine the winner of the Northern Division of the CIAA.

“This is going to be the game of the year,” said VUU offensive lineman Justin Meade, a senior from Richmond, Va., who is majoring in Business Management.  “It’s winner take all, do or die, win or go home.”

Virginia Union will meet Virginia State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, at Hovey Stadium in Richmond, Va.  Online tickets can be purchased by going to vuusports.com.
